for service as set forth in the following citation:

For meritorious service from 1 April 1968 to 31 March 1969, while engaged in combat support operations in the Republic of Vietnam. Assigned as part of the Amphibious Force, United States SEVENTH Fleet, Landing Ship Squadron NINE carried out many varied and demanding tasks. Typical of the operations in which the squadron was employed were Badger Catch, Bold Dragon, Sea Lords, Swift Pursuit, Proud Hunter, Giant Slingshot, the Mobile Riverine Groups, Fortress Attack, Market Time, and the Amphibious Ready Groups. In addition, the ships of Landing Ship Squadron NINE were tasked with numerous other difficult on-line and off-line requirements which they performed with a ready willingness and an aggressive fighting spirit that ensured consistently outstanding results, despite arduous and hazardous conditions. Each ship individually and the squadron as a unit demonstrated the professionalism, flexibility, determination, imagination, and energy needed to obtain and maintain an operational readiness and reliability of the highest order. By their exemplary performance, dedication, and contribution to the United States efforts in Southeast Asia, the officers and men of Landing Ship Squadron NINE upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

All personnel attached to and serving with Landing Ship Squadron NINE during the above-designated period, or any part thereof, are hereby authorized to wear the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon.
